Beacon Awards recognize the stars of Permian Basin nonprofits
They are the selfless volunteers and nonprofit workers who excel at uplifting communities in the Permian Basin.
On Thursday, Sept. 22, the 2022 Beacon Awards Luncheon will honor six individuals and two programs for putting in the work for the people of the Permian. The luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Petroleum Club of Midland, 501 W Wall St. In addition to the award, the nominating organization will receive $1,000.
This year, the Judge Pat Baskin Family Volunteer of the Year Award, designed to acknowledge volunteers who are residents of Midland County, will be given to Shane Bell (adult) for his work with the American Red Cross, and Cody Munoz (youth) for his work at Midland Teen Court. The W.D. Noël Volunteer of the Year Award, designed to recongize volunteers residing in Ector County, is going to Debbi McReynolds, who supports the Ector County Independent School District. Both awards aim to increase awareness of the importance of volunteering.
Joining them as Beacon Award recipients is Eric Baker, board member for The West Texas Jazz Society, for Excellence in Government Leadership, and David Diaz, who heads the Midland Community Development, for Excellence in Organizational Leadership.
The Outstanding Generations Graduate is going to Phllip K. Knight.

Odessa Arts’ Odessa Public Art program is receiving the Program Excellence Award, while the Excellence in Collaboration Award is going to We Are The World Camp, a collaboration by Midland Children’s Rehabilitation Center, Bynum School and Spectrum of Solutions.
