Carlsbad Caverns National Park seeks intern who enjoys working in caves
Those fascinated by cave science can apply for a 36-week paid internship at Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
Applications are being accepted through Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, for the Cave and Karst Assistant position at the national park, which begins June 2023.
The internship “combines cave climate monitoring with cave impact monitoring,” and “will be an opportunity to become intimately familiar with the park’s rugged backcountry and caves,” according to the National Park Service (NPS).
“The participant will monitor CO2, temperature, humidity, radon, and other environmental factors to determine current conditions in Carlsbad Cavern and the park’s Visitor Center,” NPS officials said. “Cave impact monitoring will involve organizing and participating in an inventory of broken speleothems throughout the Cavern developed area to better understand the impacts of vandalism.”
The position is open to applicants of all ages. To apply, go here.
