Carlsbad Caverns National Park turns 99

Carlsbad Caverns National Park turned 99 years old on Oct. 25.

The City of Carlsbad reminded us of the milestone on social media, sharing a photo of Mayor Dale Janway with Carmin Chapin, superintendent of Carlsbad Caverns National Park, listening to a set of 1949 records that provide facts and information about the park.

As noted by the city, Carlsbad Cave National Monument was first established on Oct. 25, 1923, which is commonly referred to as the park’s official birthday.

“The national park will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2023 with numerous special events and educational activities,” the city of Carlsbad officials said.
