Carlsbad High student and star athlete Brooklyn Calder is set to perform at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu on Dec. 7, according to Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway.

Calder is part of a select group of All-Americans chosen by Varsity Spirit to perform at the event, which will mark the 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, according to Varsity Spirit. Calder is among the top 12 percent of cheeleaders and dancers from Varsity Spirit who proved their skills at summer camps nationwide. The organization describes All-Americans as having “superior cheerleading or dance skills as well as leadership skills at the camps.” Carlsbad High participated in a camp in Albuquerque in July.

Calder will perform with fellow Varsity Spirit All-Americans prior to the opening ceremony of the parade, then will be part of the parade.

“We are thrilled that these excellent athletes will have the chance to perform and experience our Special Events in Honolulu, HI,” said Bill Seely, President of Varsity Spirit. “We are honored to provide them a one-of-a-kind opportunity, where they will meet and connect with cheerleaders and dancers from across the country, as well as be a part of a meaningful parade experience that represents our nation’s history.”

Added Janway, “Congratulations to Brooklyn Calder on being selected for this incredible honor.”
