Chevron volunteers set record at West Texas Food Bank distribution facility

A record was set at the West Texas Food Bank distribution facility in Odessa on Thursday.

With help from over 30 Chevron volunteers, over 23,000 pounds of food were packed into 950 boxes for distribution to pantries, partner organizations and others in need, the most for a volunteer group at the food bank, according to this NewsWest9 report.

“Our employees at Chevron, we live and work here and we just want to let the people in our communities know that we are committed to helping improve the quality of life here,” Jonathan Harshman, public and government affairs advisor for Chevron’s Mid-Continent Business Unit, told NewsWest9’s Jason Freund.

Chevron has operations in many of the areas across the Permian Basin that the Food Bank serves, so the Food Bank is a natural partner for the company. This fall, Chevron employees are volunteering with the Food Bank at locations across the Permian Basin, including the Odessa warehouse, another warehouse in Midland, and distribution events with partners in Pecos, Fort Stockton, and Monahans.

In his report, Freund also mentioned yours truly, PermianProud.com. As you may already know, we’re a new publication that highlights news and information that makes us all proud to live here, such as this one. Among the site’s goals is to share information that encourages community service and participation. The same way Chevron aims to serve all the Permian communities where its employees live and work through volunteerism and community investment, Permian Proud is intended to serve all these Permian communities. Chevron is the sponsor of Permian Proud.

“That website has lots of positive information on it and Chevron hopes others will join in on volunteering and making the Permian Basin a better place to live,” Freund said.

We couldn’t agree more.
