5K Pink Fun Run revs up to support Pecos Area Cancer Foundation

Get ready for some walking, jogging or running for a good cause Sat., Oct. 22, when the Town of Pecos City will host a 5K Pink Fun Run at the Cyclone Ballparks to support the Pecos Area Cancer Foundation. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, often signified by people wearing pink ribbons in a show of support.

While the 5K Pink Fun Run gets started at 9 a.m., participants are encouraged to arrive around 7:30 a.m. for registration. During the event, which happens rain or shine, participants will walk, jog or run for 3.1 miles around the ballpark. Organizers say the 5K will finish whenever the last participant crosses the finish line.

Free T-shirts will be given out to the first 100 people at the event and the concession stand will be open before, during and after the run, per organizers.

The goal of the Fun Run is “to help our community in any way or form we can” and to help local residents receive services they need through the Pecos Area Cancer Foundation, according to Edward De Leon, marketing and communications coordinator and event organizer for the Town of Pecos City.

Participant fees paid via cash or check at the event (or by a card on the phone) will help power the City’s fundraising goals. Fees are: $30 for adults (over 18); $20 for children (10-17 years); $5 for senior citizens (over 65); and no fee for children under 10 years old. Dogs are permitted on a leash.

Cyclone Ballparks is a venue located at 66 Co. Rd. 118 in Pecos, TX. To register for the event, community members can visit the Town of Pecos City’s Facebook page, or do so in person on the day of the event. Sponsorship opportunities for companies are also available.
