Alumni donate $200K to Odessa College

Crystale and Cruz Castillo III, owners of two companies in Odessa — JSA Architects and Quad C. — presented a $200,000 check to their former school, Odessa College, in order to provide scholarships for students and funding for other areas of OC.

During an event at OC, the Castillos said it was very important to them to establish endowed scholarships for OC students while remembering and honoring Cruz’s late college roommate, Pete M. Serrano, and Crystale’s late sister, Stacy J. Galindo.

According to OC, the Pete M. Serrano Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to part-time and full-time students with a 3.25 GPA or better who are working toward their Associate in Business or their Bachelor of Applied Arts & Sciences in Leadership & Management. The Stacy J. Galindo Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to part-time or full-time students with a 3.0 GPA or better working toward their Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), their Associate in Nursing (ADN) or their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

The donation will additionally support other areas of OC, funding a two-seater mule for the Wrangler Food Pantry and the Garden; the current food and toiletries budgeted need for the next 10 years; the naming of a study room in the Wood Health Sciences Building; the naming of a classroom in the OC Downtown academic building; and the purchase of bricks at the James Segrest Stadium and OC Downtown, according to OC.

“Thank you to the Castillos for their support of not just Odessa College, but for everything they do to make Odessa a better place!,” OC said in a statement.
