Another four-star hotel planned for Downtown Midland

A new 34,000 square foot hotel is being planned in downtown Midland called The Tapestry Hilton Hotel.

On Aug. 26, the Midland Development Corporation (MDC) Board approved an agreement with LS Brentway for the redevelopment of the building at 112 South Loraine, near Centennial Park.

The Tapestry Hotel project will include renovations in the existing structure along with the construction of a new six-floor structure. It will be a four-star 80 key flag hotel that features an upscale restaurant and bar.

“The developer of this project is a company owned by a local family who own and operate hotels in the Permian Basin,” MDC officials said. “The family are local stakeholders who are invested in the growth of Midland and the revitalization of downtown.

The development agreement includes $5 million in funding from the MDC for infrastructure and site improvements, with $1.25 million to be paid after the project is halfway completed, and the remaining when it receives its certificate of occupancy.

“As a Type A economic development corporation, the MDC can use funds for site improvements for qualifying projects like this one,” officials said.

This announcement follows news back in January of a separate ongoing development of a four-star hotel also near Centennial Park, called Hotel Santa Rita. Located at 300 W. Texas Ave., Hotel Santa Rita will feature 135 rooms, an 8,000 square foot ballroom, four separate meeting rooms, a 4,000 square foot restaurant and bar and first-floor retail. An 800-space parking garage would be open to the general public, not just to hotel guests.

“The Tapestry Hotel will work together with Hotel Santa Rita to bring quality accommodations to downtown Midland,” MDC stated. “Other investments such as the Bush Convention Center and Centennial Park will anchor these projects and will ultimately bring further growth to the area.”
