Asleep at the Wheel to perform with West Texas Symphony
For the third time, Asleep at the Wheel, winners of 10 Grammy Awards since forming in 1970, will join the West Texas Symphony live in concert on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center.
Tickets for the show are $32-$52, and $8 for students. Call (800) 514-3849 or purchase tickets online at WTXS.ORG.
Asleep at the Wheel was created by then-19-year-old Ray Benson, who “wanted to form a band to bring the roots of American pop music into the present,” according to the band’s website. The band would soon become the ambassador of Western swing music, and, although the lineup has changed countless times since its inception, Benson’s mission has never waivered.
“How do you keep this music going?” Benson asks. “Well, you’ve got to have some young people. If young people aren’t doing this, then we’re just a museum – and I don’t want to be a museum.
