Cody Vasquez named Midland College’s 2023 Alum of the Year
Cody Vasquez has been honored by Midland College (MC) as its 2023 Alum of the Year.
Vasquez, who received his award from the college’s Alumni Association Leadership Team March 31, graduated from Early College High School at MC in 2016.
These days, the honoree works at Angelo State University (ASU) as an admissions counselor and also heads up the award-winning Vasquez Development Group in San Angelo, which provides executive leadership training to young students and professionals.
This esteemed honor isn’t Vasquez’s first awards rodeo. He also was recently honored with the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce award for Commitment to Diversity and Community Impact, as well the 2022 San Angelo “20 under 40” award as a young professional exemplifying occupational merit and other qualities, per the college.
Vasquez said his time at MC taught him how faculty should approach teaching and how staff should care about students. On a personal note, he also met his wife, Lizette, there.
His exceptional work at MC has included coordinating the first ASU at MC Day, during which ASU admissions counselors met with students to discuss transfer opportunities. During the event, the college said he shared his own experiences, talked about education in today’s world and gave tips on continuing the educational journey.
The honoree’s other work with students includes organizing “Tomorrow’s Leaders Fundraising Campaign” to support scholarships for higher education. According to MC, he also serves on many nonprofit boards in San Angelo.
“I enjoy seeing people achieve something greater than they thought possible,” Vasquez told MC about what he liked most about community involvement.
The ASU graduate may live in San Angelo, but appreciates Midland as his hometown. “I know first-hand the value of Midland College, the wonderful impact it has on the Midland community and the opportunities it provides for students,” Vasquez told the college. “I am honored to be the 2023 Midland College Alum of the Year.”
