ECISD earns multiple awards at San Antonio school boards conference

Ector County ISD (ECISD) attended the Mexican American School Boards Association (MASBA) annual conference in San Antonio last week, and returned with multiple awards.

ECISD took home the honors for “Outstanding Workforce Development Initiative” and also “Outstanding Special Education Initiative” from the conference. Adding icing to the cake, Permian High School junior Yaretzi Barrera Alapizco earned first place in the conference’s student artwork exhibit for her work, “La Muerte Dijo Si, You Digo Que No.”

The district drew honors for Outstanding Workforce Development Initiative due to its career placement work connecting students to local industry needs, thus strengthening the surrounding workforce. ECISD said its initiatives include introducing students to employers, career counseling, resume building, application process assistance, coaching on professional etiquette and interview preparation.

ECISD said its innovative approach was cited for its Outstanding Special Education Initiative honor, particularly in hiring virtual diagnosticians, virtual speech pathologists and use contractor services in completing 1,800 new evaluations and 1,300 three-year re-evaluations during the 2023-2024 school year.
