Ector County ISD named among ‘Best Communities for Music Education’ for 10th straight year

For the 10th consecutive year, the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation recognized Ector County ISD as one of the Best Communities for Music Education.

The distinction recognizes music programs based upon metrics such as funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs.

ECISD has plenty of examples of where its music program excels. Permian High School has qualified for the UIL State Marching Contest for the past three years. For a state-record 84 straight years, Odessa High has earned Superior Division ratings at the UIL Regional Marching Contest. Every year, ECISD produces Texas Music Educators Association All-State Musicians. The ECISD’s harp program is one of the few of its kind in Texas. And an elementary strings program is beginning its third year and showcased 300 students at last year’s elementary strings concert.

Even more: All elementary students receive music instruction weekly.

“We are incredibly proud to receive the Best Communities for Music award, which is a testament to the dedication and talent of our music educators,” said Dr. Aaron Hawley, ECISD Executive Director of Fine Arts. “Their unwavering commitment to nurturing our students’ musical abilities has created a vibrant and enriching environment for all. This recognition highlights the exceptional work happening in our schools and the profound impact it has on our community.
