Elisa Felix, coordinator of school bus routes for Midland ISD, earns statewide honor

After more than three decades serving Midland ISD, Elisa Felix’s dedication to ensuring children reach school safely and on time has never waivered.

Felix, who began serving the school district as a school bus monitor, then later served as a driver, bookkeeper, dispatcher and field trip coordinator for the district’s transportation department, was recently awarded a statewide honor for her current role as the department’s transportation routing coordinator.

The Texas Association for Pupil Transportation (TAPT) awarded Felix the Operations Specialist of the Year at an annual banquet held in The Woodlands in June. In her role, Felix is tasked with designing and optimizing school bus routes in order to increase efficiency and minimize travel time. Midland ISD described Felix as having “exceptional skills, tireless dedication and commitment” to safe and effective school transportation.

“As a routing coordinator, Ms. Felix has played a pivotal role in designing and optimizing routes to increase efficiency and minimize travel time, making a significant impact on the daily lives of students, parents, and school staff,” the school district said. “Her work streamlines bus operations and ensures on-time arrivals and departures while maintaining the highest standards of safety.”

MISD Chief Operations Officer Cortney Smith described Felix as “invaluable” to the department and students.

“The honor of being named Operations Specialist of the Year is a testament to her exceptional skills and relentless dedication to ensuring the safety and efficiency of our bus routes,” Smith said.
