Golf tournament raises $500K for United Ways in Texas and New Mexico

The United Family’s annual charity golf tournament raised $500,000 for 27 non-profit organizations, including several United Way agencies in the Permian Basin.

The 31st annual Jacky Pierce Charity Classic (JPCC) golf tournament took place Aug. 28-29 and over 600 golfers participated. Since its inception, the tournament, named in honor of Jacky Pierce, longtime produce director for United Supermarkets, has raised $5.5 million for nonprofits in Texas and New Mexico.

United Way of Midland reported receiving a check for just over $23,000 from the Charity Classic. The organization’s post on social media states, “United Supermarkets continues to show what a wonderful organization they are not only in their stores but in their communities.”

Other beneficiaries of the fundraising are United Way of Odessa and United Way of Eddy County.

The United Way works with private, public, and nonprofit partners to boost education, economic mobility, and health resources in local communities, among other efforts.

“The Jacky Pierce Charity Classic continues to be an iconic event for our company and its mission of making a positive impact,” said Sidney Hopper, president of The United Family. “The United Way and partner organizations do a fantastic job of helping those in need across our communities. We know these funds will have a huge impact on the thousands of families they serve.”
