Inaugural ‘Community Garage Sale’ transforms Reeves County Civic Center

Locals from all corners of the community flocked to the Reeves County Civic Center Saturday, Aug. 17 for the inaugural “Community Garage Sale.”

Hosted by realtor Marisa Florez, the Community Garage Sale aimed to support local families and students as they get ready for the new school year.

The Civic Center that day reportedly transformed into a bustling marketplace with a singular focus: Providing back-to-school items for local kids, with prices as low as $1. The event featured gently used items contributed by local vendors with the common intent that every student could start the school year equipped for success.

The Civic Center called it a beacon of hope and support for those in need.

Florez said the overriding goal “was to create a space where people could find necessary school supplies without financial strain, while also fostering a sense of togetherness and mutual support.”

She hopes to make the Community Garage Sale an annual tradition due to the great turnout and positive impact at this year’s event. Florez hopes to expand the event in the future, drawing in more participants and offering even greater support to local families.
