Midland College’s Rohlfs and Cross honored for teaching excellence

Midland College awarded faculty members Charity Rohlfs, JD and Brenton Cross, Ph.D. the 2023 Dr. Stan Jacobs Teaching Excellence Award Fri., April 21.

The awards were given out at an on-campus ceremony in the Carrasco Room at the Scharbauer Student Center, according to the college. Each honoree received a cash award and had their name inscribed on a plaque in the Pevehouse Administration Building.

Rohlfs is cited by the college as being an associate professor in its Paralegal program, while Cross works as an associate professor of English, Humanities and Philosophy.

The Teaching Excellence Awards are made possible due to an endowment given to the college by Dr. Jacobs, a retired associate vice president of instruction. Notably, Dr. Steve Thomas, current college president, also received the award during his time teaching psychology at the school in the ‘80s.

“The core foundation of Midland College is teaching and learning,” Dr. Thomas shared with the college. Later, he added that these faculty members have made “significant contributions to Midland College through innovation in teaching and commitment to students,” and offered his congratulations.
