Realtors holding cornhole tournament to raise funds for child’s cancer battle

Agents in Action, a nonprofit made up of big-hearted realtors, is hosting a cornhole tournament at Hogan Park in Midland to raise funds to support an inspiring 11-year-old boy’s battle against cancer.

The event will run from noon to 7 p.m. at the park at 11201 E. Wadley Ave. and will also feature food, drinks and water fun and games for the kids.

Sponsorship opportunities are available, or people can join the cornhole tournament by purchasing a $50 registration ticket.

Proceeds from this event will help with medical expenses for Grayson Pickett, who was diagnosed with leukemia in January.

Agents in Action was established in 2007 by four West Texas market centers for Keller Williams Realty in order to take care of its own agents when a crisis or an emergency arises. Grayson is a dear friend of one of their agents, according to Jessi Willmann, CEO/Team Leader of Keller Williams Midland.

The cornhole tournament marks the first ever Agents in Action fundraiser event for the KW Midland-Odessa Market and the aim is to make it a family event, said Realtor Elena Filek.

Like most 11 year olds, Grayson enjoys video games and sports; he competes on the COM dive team in Midland.  Amid his battle with cancer, he has emerged a warrior. He’s endured the crippling effects of chemotherapy and other complications, which have mandated multiple hospital stays, including one lasting 28 days. Through it all, loved ones say he’s been “positive, loving and funny.”

Grayson’s family have meanwhile racked up over $16,000 in medical expenses and “still don’t have a bill for their last 28-day stay in the hospital,” Willmann said.

Further treatment will require additional lengthy hospital stays, she added.

Willmann hopes the cornhole tournament fundraiser alone will give him and his family a sense of relief.

“And being able to rally and come around this family and to support them, is also going to do so much for our community,” Willmann said.
