Midland ISD announces name, mascot for new elementary school
Welcome to the Lone Star Trails Elementary Armadillos.
Midland ISD has announced the name and mascot for the new elementary school that is being built in the Lone Star Trails area, courtesy of the passage of the 2023 Midland ISD Bond.
Lone Star Trails Elementary and Armadillos were selected as the school name and mascot following community engagement and a district process that included a committee. The school’s colors will be red, white, and blue.

The 92,500 square-foot school is on track to open in August 2025 and will initially serve pre-K through 6th grade. Upon grade reconfiguration in 2028, the school will serve Pre-K through 5th grade.
Morgan Robertson, principal of Lone Star Trails Elementary, called being the principal at Midland ISD’s 40th campus “surreal.”
“This monumental event of opening a new school does not happen often, and getting to be a part of it from the ground up has been an amazing experience,” Robertson said in a statement. “I look forward to learning more throughout the year and ensuring Lone Star Trails Elementary and our families have a wonderful opening of school in August of 2025.”
