Midland ISD lauds gains in teacher and bus driver fill rates

Midland ISD is heading into the new school year with a 98 percent teacher fill rate, an increase from 95 percent on the first day of school last year.

Twenty campuses have no teacher vacancies, while 13 have only one or two vacancies each, according to the school district.

“This improvement reflects its efforts to retain and recruit high-quality educators,” the district stated.

The school district said it also boasts a 100 percent fill rate for bus drivers, substantially improving from the 72 percent fill rate for that role on the first day of school last year. It’s a critical role given that over 20 percent of district students rely on bus transportation.

“We are incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made as a district in filling these critical positions,” said Brandon Reyes, MISD chief of Human Capital. “We strive to be the premier employer in the Permian Basin, and our department is focusing much effort on retention and recruitment.”
