Midland Storytelling Festival invites youth to annual workshops and contest

The Midland Storytelling Festival is inviting youth ages 6-18 to participate in its annual Youth Storytelling Workshops & Contest for 2022.

Master Storyteller Sue Roseberry, who is also executive director of the Midland Storytelling Festival, will conduct free workshops on three dates (Oct. 4, 11 and 18) at the Midland County Centennial Library, 2503 W Loop 250 N.

Students will be coached on selecting stories that they will share in a dramatic presentation using public speaking skills. They learn critical parts of a story and develop confidence to speak in front of an audience.

The Contest Date is Nov. 1 and will include prizes awarded to winners in three age categories. Winners will also be featured on the Family Night of the annual festival which will be broadcast on Basin PBS.

“Each year we see these amazing young people discover their talents to share their ideas clearly and in a way that inspires and entertains others,” Roseberry said. “The skills they learn in this activity translate to so many areas of their lives so it’s very worthwhile.”
