MISD doubles number of students earning academic honors from College Board

Sixty-four high school students from Midland ISD earned academic honors through the College Board’s National Recognition Awards, more than twice the number of MISD students recognized last year (27).

Another 39 of those students represent the first of their family headed to college, according to MISD.

The National Recognition Awards recognize first-generation college-bound students, including those from underserved backgrounds and regions, who score in the top 10 percent of their state on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, or score a three or higher on at least two AP exams. They also must maintain a GPA of 3.3.

“We are proud of our students for their commitment to academics and for earning these national distinctions,” said Dr. Amanda Melchor, executive director of Secondary Teaching and Learning. “Their hard work and dedication demonstrate their bright futures, and we are honored to celebrate their success.”
