Odessa College expo to celebrate, and recruit, first responders and public servants

An inaugural event at Woodson Park in Odessa Tuesday evening aims to celebrate first responders and public servants, to inspire community members to consider pursuing those careers, and to provide information on Odessa College programs.

The first annual Odessa College Back to School Expo will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Woodson Park at 1020 E. Murphy St. The free event, a partnership with the City of Odessa, is open to the public and will feature live music, food (free items for the first 400) and fun and entertaining activities including giveaways, door prizes, kids’ activities and more, organizers said.

In addition, those interested in pursuing careers as a first responder or in public service can speak first-hand with professionals in those fields, receive information and watch demonstrations by the Odessa police and fire departments.

Odessa College reps will also have information for new and returning students on “reskilling grants, scholarships, and financial aid – including how college can be free,” organizers said.
