Odessa councilmembers launch effort to support people in need during holidays

A new donations box set to be placed at Odessa City Hall aims to supply people in need with everything from blankets to toiletries and food.

It’s part of the faith-based initiative, Just One More God, launched by Odessa Councilmembers Chris Hanie and Greg Connell, according to the city.

The councilmembers hope residents will come down to the City Hall to make a donation.

“People are starving,” Councilmember Hanie said. “We want to challenge people to help.”

Longterm, they hope this donation box can work similarly to book donation versions, according to the city.

The councilmembers are also requesting that churches open their doors, saying “many volunteers are willing and waiting.”

“They want to ensure the homeless have a place to stay warm,” city officials said.

Donating is as simple as dropping your items off at City Hall., 411 W. 8th St. For questions on how to donate, call (432) 335-3200.
