National Merit Scholarship Finalist

Odessa High senior Anika Gundlapalli named National Merit Scholarship Finalist

Anika Gundlapalli, a senior at Odessa High School, was named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, meaning she ranks among the top half-percent of over 1.3 million high school seniors.

The Valedictorian of her class, Anika earned the honor based on her performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) in the fall semester of her junior year. She’s also an International Baccalaureate Diploma candidate and a Presidential Scholar nominee, according to Ector County ISD.

Anika’s productivity extends beyond the classroom. She is a member of the OHS Varsity Choir, president of the Junior Volunteer Leadership Program at Medical Center Hospital, a volunteer at the Crisis Center of West Texas, and founder and president of the Foundation for Mental Health Empowerment and Education.

In response to her latest accomplishment, Anika expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying she loves learning and crediting her teachers for supporting that passion.

The daughter of Meghana Gillala and Sai Gundlapalli, Anika wants to pursue a career in medicine and is undecided on a college.
