Odessa High WR Ivan Carreon signs with Oklahoma Sooners

In front of a crowd of family and friends at his home on Tuesday, Odessa High star wide receiver Ivan Carreon officially signed his letter of intent to play for the Oklahoma Sooners.

“Signed tonight. Delivered tomorrow. A Sooner in January,” the Ector County ISD proudly reported Wednesday.

Carreon graduated from Odessa High this month and will enroll at Oklahoma University next month. Wednesday is Early National Signing Day.

Carreon said meeting with coaches during his official visit with the Sooners program solidified his decision to sign.

“Talking to Coach (Thomas Venables) and other coaches in the office, when they were just talking to me, I really felt a connection,” he said. “Everything they said was true, just the environment that’s there, all the fans. And I was just like, this is it.”

Carreon is a 4-star wide receiver who stands 6-6 and weighs 190 pounds. His addition brings excitement to Sooners fans. AllSooners Staff Writer Randall Sweet said he watched Carreon in action and noted he wasn’t simply a possession receiver, but also a “good vertical threat” with strong hands who could give the Sooners size mismatches against opposing teams.

“He’s really athletic, he’s not jus a 6-6 frame out there,” Sweet said, noting Carreon was a multi-sport athlete at Odessa High, running hurdles in track and playing basketball.
