Permian Proud partners with Recording Library of West Texas

Permian Proud is elated to announce a new partnership with the Recording Library of West Texas that will help spread our news across the region and beyond in audio format.

The Recording Library is among the region’s longest-running active nonprofits, providing free, high-quality audio to those with visual, learning or physical impairments since 1963. The organization serves up a wide variety of printed materials in audio format, from audio books to news publications and information on important community resources.

“It’s important for us to deliver accurate news and provide a sense of community to our clients.”

The Recording Library runs a 24-hour radio station (RLWT Radio) and also produces podcasts that provide resources targeted to its listeners as well as a platform for local nonprofits to share their news and information.

“Anyone who can’t read the printed word qualifies for our services,” Executive Director Bailee Hennis said.

In addition to the visually impaired, clients of the Recording Library can include people with Parkinson’s who can’t hold a book or newspaper, or someone with learning disorders like Dyslexia.

“It’s important for us to deliver accurate news and provide a sense of community to our clients,” Hennis said.

Volunteers show up to the Recording Library’s studio in the morning to record audio versions of articles from the Midland Reporter-Telegram and Odessa American. Those news reports air at 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. that same day.

Permian Proud is honored to be selected as the Recording Library’s newest offering of local news and information. We share the nonprofit’s vision of creating a sense of community by connecting residents across the region to reliable news and information.
