Simon Waranch exhibit ‘Life in Glass’ opens at Museum of the Southwest
A pair of prominent Texas artists are exhibiting their works at the Museum of the Southwest now through April, via “Past Particles: Simon Waranch’s Life in Glass” and “Seymour Fogel: Synthesis.”
Waranch’s “Past Particles: Simon Waranch’s Life in Glass,” on display at the museum now through April 2nd and his largest exhibition to date, showcases the glass artist’s state-of-the-art reticello pieces and an in-depth exploration of his process, according to the museum, which referred to him as “a master of Venetian technique, pattern work and conceptual design.” The exhibit was recently featured in the Midland Reporter-Telegram.
Local art lovers might recall the Dallas native’s work with the Fredda Turner-Durham Children’s Museum and Midland and Odessa school children, said the museum. Waranch has also had solo exhibitions at the National Center for Jewish Art and the Longview Museum of Fine Arts in addition to being a part of the permanent collections of the Longview Museum and the Imagine Museum in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Community members have more time to see Fogel’s “Seymour Fogel: Synthesis,” which is being exhibited at the museum now through April 23rd. Fogel, who passed away in 1984, lived in Austin—where he worked at the University of Texas—and was a “key figure in the Texas Modernism movement,” according to the museum. The current exhibition spotlights Fogel’s role in developing a school of Modernism in Texas.
Fogel created some of the state’s first abstract murals for the American National Bank, UT, and the Houston Petroleum Club throughout his life, said the museum. He also exhibited his works at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Dallas Museum of Art—and is part of the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the National Archives of American art, and other art institutions, per the museum.
