Sky’s the limit at Sibley Nature Center artist reception

An artist reception coming to the Sibley Nature Center on Tuesday, Oct. 17, will celebrate the works of Midland’s Rhodema Cargill, an artist who draws some of her inspiration from the wide, vivid skies of West Texas.

“Coming from the piney woods of East Texas, she realized that she had never paused to appreciate sunsets before moving out west,” organizers of the reception state. “She also loves capturing pets, wildlife and flowers in her art. Creating art that celebrates travel with her husband and family is a special joy.”

Cargill moved to Midland in 2013 and began taking art classes and workshops, discovering a passion for pastels. She also works in oils on canvas and encaustic wax over her own photography. Cargill’s work has been recognized in juried competitions held by the Midland Arts Association, Odessa Arts Association and the Central and Austin Texas Pastel Societies.

The artist reception will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the center located at 1307 E Wadley Ave. in Midland.
