Star-studded San Antonio tennis tournament to benefit Bush ACE Outreach Program

Ten top U.S. tennis players will participate in a new tournament in San Antonio this Fall that will in part serve as a benefit for the Midland-based Bush ACE Outreach Program, according to a statement from San Antonio Sports, the nonprofit that works to attract premier sporting events to its city.

The inaugural Thomas J. Henry All American Cup, presented by Tennis Ventures, will take over Freeman Coliseum from Nov. 11-13 and feature number-one ranked American Taylor Fritz and former top 10 ATP Tour star John Isner. The Cup will include two teams of five players, with Bob and Mike Ryan, the winningest doubles team in ATP Tour history, serving as captains, states San Antonio Sports. Both singles and doubles matches will be showcased in an event that will be broadcast on the Tennis Channel.

Jenny Carnes, COO of San Antonio Sports, said the new event solidifes Texas as “a premier location for the sport.” The event will also reportedly “help support the work of the Bush ACE Outreach Program,” which was launched at the Bush Tennis Center in Midland in 2016 with the aim of connecting elementary-aged children with positive role models through the sport of tennis.

Through partnerships with the University of Texas Permian Basin and the United Stated Tennis Association, ACE has provided free in-school programs to over 40,000 elementary-aged children in the Permian Basin and free or discounted after-school and summer programs supported by the Bush Tennis Center. The program has set the goal of reaching over 200,000 Texas children with the support of new partnerships with additional Texas colleges and the USTA Arthur Ashe National Junior Tennis & Learning.
