Talented Odessan’s daily window art brightens holidays for neighbors

Who needs pricey tickets to an art gallery when you could just walk past this Odessa home every day in December.

Starting Dec. 1, talented Odessan Melody Herrera painted wonderous new scenes on the window every day through Christmas Day.

Her window art often creates iconic pop culture classics like Peanuts, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Minecraft, and many more. She even featured the iconic scene from A Christmas Story during which Flick sticks his tongue on the frozen school flagpole after a “triple dog dare.”

The City of Odessa shared the images of Herrera’s wonderful window art on social media. The post quickly racked up hundreds of likes on Facebook, with some residents expressing gratitude to Herrera for brightening up their holiday seasons.

“You guys have brought so much joy to our family. We love driving by every day to see what is new.”

“You guys have brought so much joy to our family. We love driving by every day to see what is new,” Kristy Crutcher said. “From your Halloween display to Christmas. What’s next?”

Commenter Joann Subia noted the “awesome skeleton yard displays everyday in October” at the Herrera property.

“Your Halloween displays were EPIC!,” Kaylie Banda said. “You brought lots of laughs to our family.”

Added Whitney Rike, “Thank you for making the last three months a joy to look forward to! It’s been a great holiday season living down the street!”

For those who don’t live near Herrera’s home, she shared each day’s artwork on social media, adding a fun quote related to the scene of the day. For example, a scene depicting the Die Hard movies came with the quote, “Die Hard IS a Christmas movie.”

In a Peanuts scene on Day 23, Herrera posed Charlie Brown’s important question, “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?”

Fun fact about that scene: Herrera had to paint that one from the inside, as she said her paints kept freezing.

Suffice it to say, this Odessa household knows what Christmas is all about.
