‘Toughest Two Minutes in Sports’ coming to Downtown Carlsbad

Mark your calendars for Aug. 26-27, when the “Toughest Two Minutes in Sports,” as dubbed by ESPN, comes to Downtown Carlsbad.

The Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge (FCC) will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, and run through 9 p.m. the following day.

The challenge pits firefighters against one another in job-related physical feats, such as climbing a five-story tower in full PPE gear, forcible
entry, “victim rescue,” and fire hose hoist/drag. First started in 1975 with a U.S. Fire Administration grant to the University of Maryland to develop a performance examination for firefighters, the competition tours the nation every year, visiting state fairs and town and city centers.

Carlsbad Main Street and the Carlsbad Fire Department are bringing the FCC to Downtown Carlsbad, with sponsorship by Chevron. There are sponsorship and volunteer opportunities available. Interested sponsors and volunteers should call (575) 628-3768 or email carlssbadmainstreet@gmail.com.
