Urban Air Odessa groundbreaking celebrated at old theater site

The City of Odessa celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Urban Air Odessa & The Little Gym Odessa, which will locate in former Regal Cinema movie theater at Music City Mall.

GinaMarie Soto, who opened Urban Air Midland last year, aims to open this new location at 4101 E. 42nd St. in Odessa by the end of the year.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Soto lauded city leaders for supporting the incoming business since discussions to open it began about two years ago.

“This town is open for business, period, and we love it,” she said.

City officials still hold on to memories of the old theater, but are welcoming of the new family-friendly attraction.

“I remember as a kid I came to this theater, went to the movies, my parents dropped me off and picked me up,” City Councilmember Denise Swanner said. “Now I’m grown up and I will be able to bring my grandson, drop him off and let him enjoy this as well.”

Fellow City Councilmember Mark Matta touted the need for more entertainment in the city.

“For the longest time we’ve hear people say there’s nothing good to do here,” he said. “Well now there’s going to be something great for the kids to do here, with the addition of the indoor go-karts, the skywalk, the bumper cars.”
