UTPB alum Mark Lopez named Texas Campus Administrator of the Year

Mark Lopez, a middle school principal in San Antonio who earned his superintendent certification from UT Permian Basin, was recently named the 2024 Rhosine Fleming Campus Administrator of the Year award by the Texas School Counselor Association.

Lopez credited the distinction to working with a high-quality counseling and administrative team.

“We always work and lead with a kids first mentality,” he said. “This is what educators do daily. When we are recognized for our efforts it’s just the icing on the cake.”

At UTPB, Lopez joined professor Dr. Rod Uzat in presenting research on choosing social interaction versus social media at schools and adapting technology post-COVID.

UTPB offers a 16-credit Superintendent Certification Program designed for principals and assistant principals who want to strengthen their skills as school leaders in their district. This certification can be earned in two semesters.
