UTPB offers STEM summer camp
The University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) is rolling out its Engineering Unite Summer Camp Wed., July 5 to Fri., July 28 for qualifying, rising 9th through 12th graders interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).
The four-week, pre-collegiate camp will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during the aforementioned timeframe at UTPB’s Engineering Building in Midland.
Engineering Unite Summer Camp participants can earn a $100 stipend per week and must be from groups historically underserved in STEM, while possessing a minimum of two of the AEOP (Army Educational Outreach Program) criteria, per the university.
The criteria include: Attending a rural, frontier/tribal or Title 1 school; being a low-income student (qualify for free or reduced-price lunch); identifying as female; identifying as a racial/ethnic minority in STEM; speaking English as second language; entering college someday as a first- generation student; having a disability; and students who are dependents of a military service member/veteran.
