Western Commerce Bank’s $5K donation to replace interpretive exhibits at Carlsbad Caverns

Carlsbad Caverns National Park (CAVE) will replace interpretive plant identification exhibits along the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Trail and at the visitor center, thanks to a $5,000 donation by Western Commerce Bank (WCB).

The donation was made to support the national park and its centennial celebration this year.

“We are proud to have the opportunity to meet a need at the magnificent Carlsbad Caverns,” WCB officials stated on social media.

CAVE officials expressed gratitude for the donation, as did Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway, who provided additional details on the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Trail and the history of the park.

“This is one of the park’s ‘above ground’ attractions that allows visitors to learn about native plants and species of the desert,” Janway said. “It’s a mile-long loop that, for many visitors, is their first opportunity to learn about the desert. Thank you to Western Commerce Bank for this generous donation.”

Carlsbad Caverns National Park is scheduling special activities and talks all year long to celebrate the park’s establishment as a national monument by President Calvin Coolidge in 1923. The park was redesignated as a national park in 1930, Janway pointed out.

“Over the past century, millions of people have explored the park and visited the Caverns, he said.
