Whataburger and its customers raise nearly $20K for West Texas Food Bank

Once again, Whataburger and its West Texas customers stepped up big time to support local children during Hunger Action Month, which is September.

On Friday, Oct. 7, the company delivered a check for nearly $20,000 to the West Texas Food Bank.

Just over $14,500 of those funds were contributed by customers dining at eight Whataburger restaurants in Midland, Odessa and Big Spring during the Hunger Action Month fundraiser. Whataburger donated an additional $5,000.

The funds will support the WTFB’s Food 2 Kids programs across West Texas and provide over 3,200 meals for the school year, according to the WTFB.

As part of the fundraiser, diners at Whataburger locations were encouraged to donate $1 or more at the registers. As a thank you, those who donated received a free Whataburger with the purchase of a medium fry and 32-ounce drink on their next visit. The fundraiser is part of the Whataburger Feeding Student Success initiative.

Libby Campbell, president and CEO of the WTFB, said more children need access to resources like never before. She expressed gratitude to both Whataburger and the community for their ongoing support of their West Texas neighbors. Last year, the Hunger Action Month fundraiser netted over $21,000 for the WTFB.

“Not only is Whataburger an amazing corporate partner within our community, our community continues to humble myself, our board and our staff by always stepping up and giving of their time or treasure,” Campbell said.
