Roundup: Permian Basin preps for Independence Day festivities
A full weekend of Independence Day activities are planned in the Permian Basin.
Midland
Midland’s Star-Spangled Salute will enliven the city’s downtown and Centennial Park throughout Saturday, July 2.
The event begins with the 59th Annual Children’s Sidewalk Parade, which sets off from the parking lot at E. Illinois and N. Baird St., heads down Illinois, turns left onto Colorado Street, left onto Wall Street, left on Main Street, then finally left onto Texas Street to the same parking lot on N. Baird St.
In the evening, a Beer Garden will open at Cetennial Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., along with a Fun Zone from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the concert starting at 7 p.m. (The Croakin’ Toads, Eric Logan & AKA the BAND; and Current Nine are performing) and the fireworks show occurring at about 10 p.m.
Across from Centennial Park, a Food Court will be operating all day from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Odessa
The Lions Clubs of Odessa Texas invite the community to celebrate the first Odessa Fourth of July Parade. The Parade starts at 10 am on Monday, July 4, at First United Pentecostal Church at 17th Street, then heads south down Grant Street ending at 9th Street. Parade Grand Marshall’s include Melissa Padilla Goodnoe and Master Sergeant U.S. Air Force.
Following the parade, Let Freedom Ring, a free event featuring live music, vendors and food trucks, will take place at Odessa American Legion from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Carlsbad
Carlsbad’s Liberty & Legacy event will take place Sunday and Monday, July 3-4, and will include a number of live performances on both days at the Beach Bandshell, an after-dark boat parade on the Pecos River (Saturday), a 9 a.m. parade on Sunday from the former St. Edwards School on Church Street to Canyon Street, ending at the Eddy County Courthouse, followed by a WWII & Korean War Veterans Ceremony at 10 a.m. The fireworks show will begin after dark on Sunday.
Also, the Carlsbad Water Park, normally closed on Monday, will be open on July 4 weather permitting, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
