‘Discovery Dash’ scavenger hunt celebrates Carlsbad Caverns 100th anniversary
A “Discovery Dash” scavenger hunt is happening now through Dec. 31, 2023 to help mark Carlsbad Caverns National Park’s 100th anniversary. The City of Carlsbad is hosting the scavenger hunt that locals and tourists can participate in via an app that highlights the city’s many attractions.
Those wanting to join in the scavenger hunt can download the Scavify app for free on any App Store and search for the Carlsbad Caverns Discovery Dash, per the City. Carlsbad’s main attractions, such as the Carlsbad Water Park and the new mini golf course, are included. Participants who earn more than 30 points in the scavenger hunt will be entered into a random drawing for $500 on Jan. 1, 2024.
Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway said, “We have so many wonderful family activities around Carlsbad and we wanted a fun way to share that with people who might be visiting the Caverns for the 100-year anniversary.” She encouraged families to participate in the scavenger hunt as a fun way for kids to learn more about the city’s history.
Carlsbad Caverns’ official 100th anniversary date is Oct. 25, 2023, marking the day that President Calvin Coolidge established the park into law. Learn more here.
