Early College High School at Midland College named a National Blue Ribbon School
The U.S. Department of Education has named Early College High School at Midland College (ECHS@MC) as a National Blue Ribbon School, marking it among the nation’s best high schools and as a national model for education.
Housed on the Midland College campus, ECHS@MC, which is focused on college readiness and provides students the opportunity to graduate with an associate degree from MC, was recognized as an Exemplary High-Performing School as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
The school is among 297 of all grade school levels up through high school to achieve the prestigious status of National Blue Ribbon School.
The U.S. Department of Education will formally recognize the schools, of which 273 are public and 24 are private, at an awards ceremony in Washington, DC on Nov. 3 and 4.
“Being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School is a great honor,” ECHS@MC Chancellor Renee Aldrin said in a statement. “Our scholars are very hard-working and have a collegiate mindset. And I can’t say enough about our teachers, who are all dedicated to helping each individual student achieve their goals by mastering challenging and engaging content.”
Bryan Murry, president of the Midland Independent School District board, expressed pride in the staff and students at ECHS@MC.
“The national Blue Ribbon designation demonstrates that others across the state and nation are taking notice of the outstanding things happening in Midland ISD schools,” Murray said.
ECHS@MC staff, students, parents and the Midland community have worked together to create an environment at ECHS@MC that “fosters student achievement and success,” added Midland College President Dr. Steve Thomas.
