Singer/songwriter Larry Gatlin to teach course at UTPB
Famed singer/songwriter Larry Gatlin will soon also be known as “professor.”
The Grammy award-winning artist from Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers will teach a course at the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) in spring 2023, the unversity has announced.
Gatlin, who played quarterback for Odessa High in his youth, penned hits in the 70s and 80s including “Broken Lady,” “All the Gold in California” and “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You,” to name a few. At UTPB, he will share “his art of creative writing and storytelling with students” that made him a hall of famer in the music industry, according to UT Permian Basin President Dr. Sandra Woodley.
The course will include elements of songwriting, history, creative writing and personal development, officials said. More details will be released in the fall.
“As UTPB’s new Professor of Practice, he will lead an exciting new master class to share his experiences and encourage people from all walks of life to explore their own creativity and passion,” Woodley said. “We are thrilled about this partnership.”
