‘Ferdinand’ in Odessa wins gold at 2023 National Mural Awards
“Ferdinand” by Ernesto Maranje, located prominently at the parking garage of the Downtown Odessa Marriott at 6th Street and Jackson Avenue, won Gold for our region at the 2023 National Mural Awards, Odessa Arts reported.
The National Mural Awards announced the winners on social media on June 5.
Maranje said he was excited about the result.
“It was a pleasure to paint in Odessa, and I’m grateful for the opportunity and the award,” he said.
The competition judges murals completed in the U.S. during the 2022 calendar year. Eligible artwork can be of any size or permanent or temporary. Only the artist could submit the mural’s entry into the competition.
The 2023 awards featured Gold, Silver and Bronze awards presented to the top three murals in each of five U.S. regions, with the regional winners each qualifying for the National Awards, according to the organization. The 2023 National Mural Awards were judged by seven art directors and coordinators from across the nation.
