‘Great party, great cause:’ Jockeys, Juleps & All That Jazz benefits at-risk students

Jockeys, Juleps & All That Jazz is set to make its return on Friday, May 5 to providing a really good time for a really good cause.

The 10th annual event will take place at the Petroleum Club of Midland at 501 W Wall St. starting at 7 p.m. The fun will include a hosted cocktail party, three-course dinner, libations, live music, a Kentucky Derby Hat and Colorful Tie contest, wine & whiskey pull and live and silent auctions.

All this to raise funds to support the critical work of the Communities in Schools of the Permian Basin (CISPB), which serves thousands of students annually with the aim of keeping them in school and on track to graduate from high school.

‘Each year on average, 95 percent of those served [by CISPB] stay in school and 95 percent have graduated.’

CISPB provides programming to students at risk of dropping out of school, in part by working to address underyling factors causing their difficulties at school, such as hunger, homelessness, mental health issues, physical and emotional abuse and more. This school year, staff at CISPB will serve over 20,000 students with campuswide events and case-manage over 2,000 at-risk students on 23 campuses in the Permian Basin.

“Thankfully, because of CISPB programming and our campus coordinators, each year on average, 95 percent of those served stay in school and 95 percent have graduated,” CISPB officials stated. “Through generous support, in the past two years our program has expanded to five elementary campuses, and we have continued to expand our Mental Health Support Program.”

CISPB says helping students stay and thrive in school is a transgenerational impact, directly impacting current and future generations.

“We invite you to be part of this meaningful evening by reviewing the enclosed  sponsorship information and joining your West Texas neighbors in making a positive difference in the lives of our local youth,” CISPB said.
