Midland College accepting applications for new Radiologic Technology program
Midland College (MC) is accepting applications for its new Radiologic Technology program.
All coursework, which includes didactic, laboratory and clinical components, will take place at Midland Hospital’s F. Marie Hall Outpatient Center located at 4214 Andrews Highway.
The deadline to submit applications is June 29, 5:30 p.m. (apply HERE). Classes begin on Aug. 21.
Radiologic Technologists perform diagnostic imaging examinations on patients and are responsible for preparing patients using x-ray equipment. They work with medical providers to obtain the best images possible to properly evaluate the patient, according to MC. The program takes two years to complete, and only one course — College Algebra — is required as a prerequisite.
MC’s Radiologic Technology program coursework will lead to an Associate of Applied Science degree, and graduates will be eligible to take the national registry examination offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Beyond the initial registry, there are additional registry exams that can be considered, such as Interventional Radiography, CT, MRI, Bone Density and Mammography, according to Kelly Wright, director of Radiology for Midland Memorial Hospital.

“For people who are looking for a career that works with the latest advances in medical care where they can be a vital part of the patient care team, Radiologic Technology is a great choice,” said Wright, who assisted in the curriculum development for the MC program. “Radiologic Technologists are in high demand in Midland. In fact, we are currently having to use contract labor in several radiography areas at the hospital.”
Current full-time starting pay is $26.72/hour, and Midland Memorial Hospital offers a $10,000 sign-on bonus to new graduates who are offered employment and a $500 stipend to help pay for supplies and the national registry exam, according to MC.
“We need Radiologic Technologists who can multi-task but are detail oriented,” Wright said. “When I hire, I’m looking for people who are critical thinkers, can handle fast-paced environments, patient centric, dependable and most of all, have a servant’s heart.”
After students are accepted into the MC program, they can apply for a Midland Memorial Hospital scholarship that will pay up to full tuition, books and supplies, as long as they make a two-year employment commitment to Midland Memorial Hospital after they receive their degree and license, according to MC.
