Midland’s Bonham Elementary named ‘model’ campus for educator collaboration
Bonham Elementary educators are proving how teamwork can make the dream work.
The school was among 300 schools in the U.S. and Canada to be named a “Model PLC campus” for the way its educators collaborate on campus.
Educational professional development company Solution Tree determines which schools receive this recognition. To qualify, a school must demonstrate commitment to PLC (professional learning community) concepts, implement them for at least three years, and present evidence of improved student learning and and annual data showing met criteria of the PLC at Work process, according to Solution Tree.
Bonham Elementary’s progress is evident in a number of ways, including its Texas Education Agency scores, which earned a B rating, up from a D rating in 2019, according to Midland ISD.
“To become a highly-effective team it took time to refine, but we stayed committed to collaboration and focused intently on student learning,” said Tricia Teran, Midland ISD’s director of Learning Leading and Innovation who served as Bonham’s principal from 2018-2022. “Ultimately, the goal is to promote student success, and this distinction is a salute to all the hard work that was put in by students and staff during that time.”
Bonham’s current Principal Dr. Armando Gallegos, said he’s “seen the academic successes that have been achieved through the PLCs.”
“We are continuing this important work by focusing on learning, collaboration, and results,” Gallegos said.
Midland ISD’s Lamar Elementary was named a Model PLC in 2020.
