Monahans Kids Zone expansion required to meet growing community need

The Monahans Kids Zone (MKZ) is an amazing and impactful nonprofit organization that serves as the only dedicated facility providing after-school youth services in Monahans. The greatest hindrance to MKZ’s mission is its aging facility, a 1950’s era former furniture store. A new, larger facility is needed in order for MKZ to meet a growing need for its services in the community.

And so on Monday, Feb. 5, I took particular pride in joining my Chevron colleague, Spencer Denton, in presenting Ward County Greater Works with a $50,000 donation on behalf of Chevron to support efforts to build a brand new, more expansive home for MKZ.

Chevron’s donation will go toward an ongoing fundraising campaign to construct an 18,000-square foot multi-use activity center that will enhance and expand MKZ’s afterschool programming, which currently serves 30-40 1^st through 6^th grade students annually. With the new building, MKZ anticipates expanding its services to reach 250-300 1^st through 12^th grade students annually.
