UTPB football ranked No. 21 in AFCA preseason poll

UT Permian Basin Football is ranked No. 21 in this year’s American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

Last year, a preseason poll had the Falcons finishing seventh in the Lone Star Conference (LSC), but the team ended up going 8-0 in league play and winning its first ever conference title.

After a 28-23 win at No. 19 Angelo State on Oct. 28 last season, UTPB cracked the national rankings. The Falcons ended last season at No. 18 in the AFCA poll, but they received their highest ranking of No. 12 at the end of the regular season, according to UTPB Athletics.

The Falcons were one of three LSC football programs to be ranked in the top-25 in this year’s preseason poll. Central Washington University is ranked No. 8 and Angelo State University is No. 24. Texas A&M University-Kingsville also received votes.
