Pecos youth spread love at local nursing home
In honor of Valentine’s Day, the Pecos Youth Advisory Commission (Pecos YAC) recently visited elderly residents of Focused Care at 1819 Memorial Drive. The result was a heartwarming experience for both the residents and their young visitors.
Pecos YAC members spent time with residents of the center, and also passed out baskets filled with stuffed animals, handmade cards, toiletries and candy, according to the Town of Pecos.
“Visiting Focused Care at Pecos was an amazing experience for all of us,” said Carlie Ramirez, Pecos Youth Adivsory’s Chairperson. “We were grateful to have the opportunity to spread some love and put smiles on the faces of the residents.”
Edward De Leon, Pecos YAC’s Sponsor, encourages other young people to “join us in making a difference.”
“We want to show that anyone, no matter how young, can make a positive impact,” De Leon said.
The Pecos YAC is an organization within the Town of Pecos City that aims to develop young advocates between 6th and 12th grades into leaders and foster a culture of service.
Earlier this month, from Feb. 4-5, the Pecos YAC attended the Texas Youth Advisory Commission Summit in Dallas. The annual event provided YACs statewide the opportunity to attend skills-building workshops, to har from motivational speakers and share ideas.
