Refreshing: Odessa police and fire officials support local girl’s lemonade stand

A young girl’s budding lemonade stand has a cool new feature thanks to the Odessa fire and police departments.

The girl, who sells the refreshing beverage on the corner of 10th and Golder on weekends, was recently loaned an awning by Odessa Fire Rescue that keeps her cool as she grows her business, fire officials reported on social media last week.

“Her mom was trying to keep her cool by holding an umbrella over her,” the fire department said. “If ya’ll get a chance, stop and buy some lemonade. Thank you Central B Shift.”

NewsWest9 uncovered more of the story, identifying the girl as Genalyah, and her mom as Michelle Silva. Silva said her daughter’s dream “is to have her own snow cone stand” and to become an Odessa police officer. Read the full story here.
