UTPB Coach Rae Boothe nets 200th career win

The UT Permian Basin Women’s Basketball team secured Coach Rae Booth‘s 200th career win in appropriate fashion Thursday night, with a brilliant defensive effort.

At Oklahoma Christian, UTPB forced 37 turnovers, the third most in program history, in a 68-53 win that marked a milestone for a coach known for leading swarming defenses.

Diavian Spencer scored 16 points off the bench, while Holly Hemmeline added 13 and Morgan Helgesen chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds for the Falcons, who improved to 5-4 overall, and 2-1 in conference.

Boothe became UTPB’s head coach in 2017. According to the university, “She is a coach known for how hard her teams play on the defensive end.” The stats back that up, as her teams consistently lead their respective conferences in steals and forced turnovers. Last year, the Falcons finished second in the Lone Star Conference in those categories.

Prior to joining UTPB, Boothe was head coach for seven seasons at Friends University in Kansas, and previously served in coaching roles at Brenau University (NAIA Div. 1) near Atlanta, Ga. and Warner University in Florida.

The Falcons next travel to Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday, with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
