Texas Scholar Agency Fair to inform HS students about volunteer opportunities
Ector County high school students looking for volunteer opportunities should attend the Texas Scholar Agency Fair at Odessa College on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
The event will feature more than 40 Texas Scholar approved volunteer organizations and will be held at the Odessa College Electronics Technology Building, across from the Globe Theatre, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be refreshments, door prizes and giveaways.
Hosted by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, the fair is open to students from 9th through 12th grades within the Ector County ISD, Compass Academy and Richard Milburn.
Last school year, 360 students were enrolled in the Texas Scholar program, completing 12,060 hours of community service to local nonprofits. A student participating in the program will “will have successfully volunteered at least 50 hours of community service within Ector County,” according to the Chamber.
“This program also motivates youth to become productive students, employees and citizens through the support and involvement in the business community,” the Chamber said.
The Texas Scholar program launched in 1997 and has since provided 323,373 volunteer hours to local organizations.
