The Odessa Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the Texas Scholar Agency Fair. The event is set for Tuesday, October 4th from 5:30pm to 7pm. It will be held at Odessa College Electronics Technology Building, across from the Globe Theatre. More than 40 Texas Scholar approved volunteer organizations will be on hand to inform the students on volunteer opportunities for the upcoming school year. There will be refreshments, door prizes and giveaways. Texas Scholars is open to students 9th through 12th grade. The Texas Scholars program partners students with local organizations in providing volunteer opportunities. By the time a student graduates from high school, they will have successfully volunteered at least 50 hours of community service within Ector County. This program also motivates youth to become productive students, employees and citizens through the support and involvement in the business community. The program has now expanded to include ECISD, Compass Academy and Richard Milburn. During the 2021-22 school year, the Texas Scholars program had 360 students enrolled this year, completing a total of 12,060 hours of community service to local non-profits! That’s amazing! Since the inception of the Texas Scholar program back in 1997, participating agencies have benefitted from 323,373 volunteer hours from participating students. Most importantly, the students have received invaluable experience that you can’t put a price tag on.
